CLIMATE, LOCATION, CURATIVE FACTORS:
The old Pomeranian towns Swinoujscie and Miedzyzdroje are located on the islands Usedom (on the border to Germany) and Wolin (about 10 km from the German border). Already in 1824 Swinoujscie became one of the first German coastel resorts and the local stock corporation began to establish the necessary infrastructure.
Today, Swinoujscie (about 43 000 inhabitants) and Miedzyzdroje (about 6 000 inhabitants) rank among the most popular health and holiday resorts on the Polish Baltic coast.
A wide sandy beach, wild dunes and a strap of balmy pinewood provide the prerequisites for a perfect relaxing holiday.
The extraordinary climate and the beautiful landscape contribute to the recovery and cure of diverse diseases and medical conditions. These factors were also crucial for the decision to build modern health resorts in this region at the beginning of the 19th century. These resorts attracted the elite from northern Europe who was enraptured by the beauty of the Island and the healing power of the climate.
In addition to the maritime air with its high concentration of iodine the towns posses own salt-water and mud baths which provide perfect conditions for a spa treatment. The mineral and salt springs were discovered in 1897 and because of their healing powers the region became the “pearl at the Baltic Sea.” Various standards of the various health resorts, hotels and boarding houses satisfy all the different needs of the customers. There is also a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes. In Miedzyzdroje there is a golf course.
During the summer months Swinoujscie and Miedzyzdroje are occupied by famous musicians, actors, painters as well as by the young Polish and European avant-garde.
Then the boardwalks are busy until dawn.
